DLand - Strawberry Willy with Wet Nuts

My coworkers, Dan and Russ came into town today. Dan flew them in from across state so that turned a five hour car trip into a one and a half hour flight. Pretty miraculous, all in all. We all went out for lunch today at Doumar's. The sandwiches are small (and cheap) so we always order two things a piece there. After dinner we picked out some dessert. Doumar's is, of course, famous for their cones, but we opted for shakes and sundaes. Nobody told Russ that you have to pay 10 cents extra to get your shake thin enough to use a straw so he ended up spooning most of his down. Dan dared me to order a Strawberry Willy with wet nuts but I couldn't do it. I could even say it without snickering uncontrollably.

Did a whole lot of nothing this weekend and that was just what I needed. Rich came over on Saturday to retrieve Connor and we power-futzed. It rocked. Sunday was spent doing a small bit of shopping. I bought a cd because it had two songs on it I wanted but since it was also labelled \"Christmas with the Gentlemen of Country Music\" we also got some songs I could have done without. The best/worst was God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen by Roy Clark (that guy from HeeHaw who smiles all the time). A better title would have been Santa Went Down to Georgia. It was the single reason why people hate country music. I could barely listen to it except it was so amazingly cheesey. I kept expecting the three wise men to pop up out of a corn field.

DLand - Sounds of the Season

Me (coming in the house from work): "Hello Sweetpea! Hello Casey. Yes hello Sarah. Hello Connor. I know it's hard being the shortest dog. Don't get many pettings. Hello again, Sarah. Ok, now go away doggies." Sweetpea (from computer room): "Hello Sweetie! How was your day?" Sounds of horrific gunfire and Aliens dying come from his general direction.

Me (in computer room): "Well, it was pretty good. We went shopping at lunch and .... Sugar? Sweetie? Ooh, that was gross."

AVP2 Game: "Bweedeep...Bweedeep...Bweeedeep....AUGH!!!!!"

Me (dazed but still determined to talk about my day): "So anyways, we've bought all of Marilee's stuff and ... Honey? Did you hear your commander? She said the Aliens are in the ceiling. Isn't that where your little marine guy is? Honey? Are you sure your motion tracker is workEEEEEEEEEEEEE! OH MY GOD! RUN! RUN! HE'S GONNA GET YOU! AAAAUUGGGHHHH!"

Sweetpea: "Why don't I turn this off before you have a heart attack and we can talk about your day in the living room?"

Me (with hands over face): "Good idea."

Every year it's the same. Bossman has it hard in December. He must buy gifts for Mrs. Bossman's birthday (Dec. 14), their anniversary (Dec. 21) and Christmas (duh). And, as she should, she gets grumpy if she gets any combination gifts. So yesterday we bought the last of the December gifts. That's what I do at work during the holiday season. Monday I was the hand model at the jewelry store. I must have had $5000 worth of bling bling on my hands at one point. I think we picked out a good one but we'll have to wait to see if she likes it.

Yesterday we trekked to the sewing store looking at sewing machines and stuff. The woman in the store kept showing me all the features and Bossman just wandered around the store (he's there to pay for it - I'm there to pick out the good one). The fruitbat sales woman kept commenting on what a patient husband he was. How he would let me pick out whatever I wanted. I just smiled and Bossman just scowled. She eventually asked how long we had been married and we both resisted the temptation to tell her 23 years. We declared that we were not married and I was simply performing my duty as a craft consultant. Yep, every year it's the same.

DLand - Connor - Curious Scottie

Stop the presses, Genie has a day off! I will not have to be at work tomorrow. I know, it's hard to believe. And I don't even have any cosmic plans. Sure I took Friday off before we went up for Crusades, but that was more like work that didn't involve computers. This is a day off where all I have to do is sit around in my pajamas and watch the day pass. I think I'll watch all my episodes of Samurai Jack that I have on the Tivo. Perhaps I will paint my toe nails. Woohoo! I am working Friday, but I can't imagine many librarians calling with crises on the day after Thanksgiving. The plan that day is to take the phone system down and upgrade it. So then when (not if) I break it, I'll have all weekend to get it going again before people start calling.

This past weekend was extremely pleasant. I had no real reason to go to the event we attended other than to hang out with my friends and wait for it to be over so we could watch the Harry Potter movie. But I did pick up some garter buckles from Ross and talked to a really cool gal who also has an insulin pump like me. She reminded me alot of myself at her age (11 I think). I then lost my brain and literally threw my blood glucose meter in the street. I left it in the parking lot while we were packing. Fate has a funny way, though, because I ended up buying a new meter the next day that I actually like better that was only $15. And of all the things to leave in the street, the $50 meter that was full of contact information was better than the $500 cell phone or the $500 PDA or the $500 digital camera. I need to not carry so many gadgets with me. That and I repacked the wagon three times looking for it, so I knew where everything was in the car for the rest of the day (except the meter, of course). I had a detailed map of the Escort in my head.

We also did our duty to keep the economy going by buying even more Harry Potter CCG cards. I am only missing the unicorn in the original set, but the bastards have now released the Quiditch booster set. Damn them. I realized the other evening that we probably eat out too much when I got the debit slip from the cashier at the comic shop and tried to calculate a tip to the bill. I'm sure the comic guy was very good to us, but I don't think he needs 15-20% for his efforts.

After our weekend of fun, Rich and Gabrielle's little Scottie, Connor, came home with us to camp GenieAlisa for Thanksgiving. We're cheaper than the kennel for sure and have almost as many dogs as they do. He's been like having a puppy around (only without all the chewing of shoes and accidents and such). I asked Sweetpea yesterday, \"Are you sure this dog is 7 years old?\". Crazy mutt. Jeremy bought him a stuffed ball with a squeeky thing in it and let me tell you that thing was the cat's meow for him. The damn thing was as big as his head but he didn't seem to mind. At 11 last night Jeremy literally had to hide it from him and remind the little guy that it was bed time. I really believe Connor thinks this is one giant slumber party. He's going to order pizza at 1am I'm sure.
