I went over to my parents' again last night. Poor Mom had her car towed while at work for parking in a handicapped space (she has a handicap tag, but it was between the seats and not on the rear view). So Dad had to come retrieve her and drive her out to get her car and pay $85 for towing. Hopefully she can get out of the $200 fine for parking in a handicap space since she technically has the tag (and it was even in the car). Sounded like she was having a hard day. But I got free dinner and puttered about a bit with them. It's always good to go over there. I'm glad I live so close.

One Man's Trash ...

I can't help it. I'm an emotional person by nature. I cried on the way home today. I tried to be calm and logical and maybe even a little cynical, but in the end, I just got sad. Sad and confused. So let's talk about something else, shall we?

It was the night before trash pickup last night and on the way home from my parents' I spotted some lovely garbage out for the taking. So I pulled my BMW X5 over on the side of the road at 8pm and walked up to the curb to start digging through my neighbors' junk. In the end, all I took was a dog carrier that would be palacial for Connor but a bit small for Sarah. But other than some dirt on the top of it, it's in perfect condition. I left the toddler sized "play kitchen" behind mostly because I couldn't fit it in my car and I don't actually have a toddler myself. But I did feel a bit of hope in getting something for nothing (and my crates for free).

I've been doing various homework online and found a very interesting web site: TeenWire. In particular, it was fascinating to see the section on girls with boyfriends in Iraq.

Rocking the Vote

I went to vote this morning, making it through in less than an hour. Several people mentioned in line that they had never seen lines this long. It's pretty exciting all around. If I were a poll worker, I would have had some ideas on how to make it a little more efficient, but all in all it was fine. I'm trying to stay optimistic in general today. I'm not going to bitch about mean things that people have said about candidates or voters. I'm not going to bitch about inefficiencies in the system. I'm just excited that people really are voting.

This was the first time I've voted in my "home district" where I spent my childhood. So when I walked up to check in, my name was right there in with my parents and brother. It was a warm fuzzy kind of moment. It only got better when I saw my brother walk in 10 minutes after me and we gave an eyebrow raising nod to each other.

So I'm spending my evening watching the news (including the Daily Show live at 10pm) and hoping for the best.
