DLand - Humility Shot in the Arm

So my whole brain is just one big jello blob of musings. This is not a normal operating state for the Genie-head, so I'm all in a funk about it. This whole weekend was a very humbling for me. Let's re-cap in third person to make it less painful. Genie prides herself on never getting lost and having a fairly good working plan of the interstates in her area. Every time Genie got in the car from Friday through today, she has made some REALLY STUPID wrong turn that gets her all turned around and on some road that no map wants to even own up to printing. There must be some logical explanation for this. The sun was in her eyes. The signs were taken down. The car had a mind of it's own.

Genie also prides herself on being able to create a piece of costume with reasonable authenticity and style. The italian has potential to be babe-o-licious in about three more woman hours of labor. But she forgot her good lacings and left the sweet pea rings at home and apparently can't even count to 24 (there were 25 lacings on the left side and 23 on the right). Now they say one breast can be bigger than the other, but it probably doesn't merit additional lacings. Apparently no matter how long before the day of the event the dress gets started it will ALWAYS be a work in progress.

Genie apparently doesn't have the cast iron stomach she claims to have. She got fairly drunk fairly quickly and managed to win first prize in the Drink 'til You Puke contest. The embarrassment transcended the rum. Oh, and she thinks she might have touched Susie's boob - twice. But that might have just been some fictitious memory burned into her retinas to pop up about halfway down I-95. Oh, that girl Genie can be such a dork.

Whew, back to first person. So other than that, the weekend was good. I was pleasantly surprised to see Wynn and her kids from New York on Friday and had an entertaining event. I spent a fair amount if time babbling about tents with Sorcha and coming to terms with the fact that my tent technology is soooo old. I'm so glad I sold my first version so I don't have to go home and look at it. But being an optimistic person, I'm glad that I have the awesome Sorcha as a resource after she's worked out so many issues with sewing canvas pavilions. And one day, I'll make a new pavilion that will be better, faster, stronger.

Gotta find something tomorrow to really kick ass at to redeem myself.

DLand - The Original Princess Diana (of Themyscira)

Wonder Woman turns 60 years old this year. She is an icon of my youth and still a heroine of mine. I wore Wonder Woman Underoos for Halloween when I was 3. I even wore them to the car lot where my mother bought the orange Ford Pinto. She's is the quintessential feminist - the first in popular fiction. She's no bra burner. She's a tiara wearing, knee-boot kicking, fighter of evil and Goddess of Truth!

God, and that spin! I used to spin in the living room just like Lynda Carter waiting for my pajamas to transform into gold bracelets and a red halter top.

Did you know that Wonder Woman's creator, William Moulton Marston pioneered research at Harvard University that led to the polygraph? That truth lasso was such a saucy combo of justice and bondage.

So take today and pay homage to Diana Prince's alter ego, maybe you have your own alter ego. Next time you're in the elevator, give a twirl and see if you get those gold bracelets and gold lasso.

And when you think you know it all, try the quiz. Not to boast but this Wonder Girl got a 45 out of 50. :)

DLand - A Few Sewing Tips from Miss Genie

1. If you're measuring for a tight-fitting bodice, don't measure with the lift and separate underwire bra on, use the mono-boob sports bra. Your tits look great, but the lacings get a little loose in the cleavage area. Thankfully, everything has a purpose and I've found a cozy little spot to store the insulin pump. I was wondering where I could put the silly thing in this dress anyways. For those without pumps, you could substitute a cell phone or pager, but don't blame me when your breasts starting beeping or vibrating. And I'll probably have to make a padded sack for the pump. That's gonna be a fun little project. 2. Don't go to Joann's in April to look for something to go with your green velvet. The women there just don't understand and if you do find something it's most assuredly NOT on sale. Do, however, go to Joann's to get peeps at 75% off!

3. If you use enough fabric and pin it enough, you can cheat and machine stitch the cartridge pleats on your skirt. Shh, don't tell! I hate hand-stitching.

I've got the sleeve pattern down for the most part and found some more velvet to match. The snot was too much last night, however, so there's still no sleeves on it. But I've been using an old sheet for my pattern fabric and the vertical stripes have been quite handy for getting straight lines and measuring. Thank you, Ralph Lauren!

Other than that, you may have noticed the site has a new and classy look. I must give props to JamieStar for the inspiration. It's boxy, but good. She's the most awesome person I've never met.

I'm all proud of myself for using all these new diaryland features, like the latest 5 entries and the previous and next links. I'll add more features soon I'm sure as this project sucks up my spare time, but so far, the guestbook and new layout are the greatest things to sweep this page. I was a late bloomer to the guestbook, I admit, but am coming out full tilt into the magic of Diaryland. Don't forget to tell me what you think.
